Program Overview

A branch of engineering that involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and tools. It is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines. Mechanical Engineering emerged in the 19th century from the developments in the field of physics. In today’s era, Mechanical engineers are gaining new research heights in fields such as composites, mechatronics, and nanotechnology. The role of a mechanical engineer is to take a product from an idea to the marketplace. The breadth of the mechanical engineering discipline allows students a variety of career options beyond the few mentioned above. The study of the Mechanical engineering empowers students with creative thinking to design new product; analytical tools to turn their design to reality; and most importantly the teamwork.

Mechanical Engineering program at Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology is best suited to meet the ever-changing requirements of engineers. We have a strong undergraduate program in mechanical engineering. The primary focus of our curriculum is to impart technical know-how to students. We promote their problem-solving skills and innovation of new technologies. The mechanical department offers numerous optional certificate courses for providing a wide spectrum of options to the students to gain knowledge about their interest beyond the curriculum. Students are also encouraged to undertake various live projects.

Eligibility Criteria

The basic eligibility requirement to pursue a Mechanical Engineering program is:

  • B. Tech Mechanical Engineering (4 Year): Admission will be made based on rank of JEE (Main) conducted by CBSE, New Delhi for both 85% quota for resident of Punjab and 15% quota for outside Punjab.
    • OR
    The candidates who have passed 10+2 examination from a board recognized or established by central/state government through legislation with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects:
    • Chemistry
    • Biotechnology
    • Computer Science
    • Biology
  • B. Tech Mechanical Engineering-Lateral Entry (3 Year): All the Candidates who have passed Diploma examination from an AICTE approved Institution and have obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST) in appropriate branch of Engineering/Technology shall be eligible to apply.
    • OR
    All those candidates who have passed B.Sc. NM Degree from a recognized University as defined by UGC, with at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) and passed XII standard with mathematics as a subject shall be eligible to apply.
